Everything is relative (considered in proportion to everything else).

“The rate at which time passes depends on your frame of reference”, as Einstein stated.

It is so easy to forget that.

Summers of youth were so much longer than they are today. Well, no, of course they weren’t, but it certainly felt that way and my goodness we did fit lots in.

Waiting for that holiday you booked months ago and are so in need of, seems to be taking ages. However, the thing you are dreading is here in the blink of an eye.

Can you see how easy it is for a demotivated team to lose the big picture? Long to go home and, yes they are paid well, but they have lost direction.

It is so very important to keep your team motivated and so easy for them to become de-motivated. We all need a bit of praise, or at least recognition, one way or another. It’s human nature.

This can range from a simple ‘thank you’ to ringing the bell when a big sales contract is signed. Everyone needs to be appreciated.

As a Manager, the achievers are essential to you – let’s face it, whether you like them or not. They all need motivation at the same level. They are all cogs in the wheel that drives and supports your company. Each level cannot achieve without the other level.

We salespeople think we are the best – but the best made sale is of little standing without our top-class Credit Controllers bringing the outstanding money in. Without our ‘on the ball’ Administration Staff typing up the contracts and so very much more that they are rarely recognised for. Without our fabulous Receptionists, remembering Mrs/Mr Special Customer when they phone in, remembering, when they visit, the tea/coffee they drink with how many sugars – or not, just water, showing them how special they are to us.

Motivation does not come naturally to many of us. That’s why, interspersed amongst all the many other training courses, Britsales has added brief papers on Staff Motivation and Development.

These are all free to you in our Business Club.
